Mildred Lucas Whitaker was born on October 8, 1929 to James and Lula Lucas in Jacksonville, Florida. She confessed Christ at the early age of 8 years old, uniting with Mount Ararat Baptist Church, she was later baptized at Northside Church of Christ. Mildred received her education through the Duval County Public School Systems, graduating from Stanton Vocational School.
 
Mildred later met and married Solomon Whitaker, Sr. and from this union two sons and three daughters were born.

Mildred departed this life on Saturday, May 12, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Solomon Whitaker, Sr.; son, Solomon Whitaker, Jr.; and daughters, Rachel Grissett and Darlene Whitaker II (Lene Girl).

Mildred leaves to cherish her memories: loving son, Samuel Whitaker, Sr.; daughters, Gail Lockley, Darlene Whitaker and Angela Whitaker; grandchildren, Stephanie Grissett-Scott, Carlton Grissett, Larry Lockley, Jr., LanMy Lockley, Die’l Lockley, Patrick Lockley, Samuel Whitaker, Jr., Darrell Whitaker, Lawrence Johnson and Quantina Griffith; sister, Ernestine Robinson; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
