Obituary for Milton Wiley Jr.

As part of God’s great plan, a new life took its first breath on January 31, 1950 in Gainesville, Florida. Thus, opened the book of life for Milton Wiley, Jr. As was the custom, Milton was delivered at home by a mid-wife. Following the birth of his sister, Alice, just a year earlier, Milton became the first of four sons; which included, Melvin, Robert, and Jimmie, born to the union of Milton Wiley Sr. and Loretha Timmons Wiley.

Milton was converted to Christianity and baptized at early age by the late Reverend Castor Nelson in Gainesville, Florida. He was a faithful member of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church in Gainesville, Florida.

Milton attended Alachua Public schools (Gainesville, FL), Cleveland Public Schools (Cleveland, OH) and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1970. In 1971, began his career at Woolworth’s Department Store (Gainesville, FL) until he retired as Store Manager in 1991. He then began a second career at Sam’s Club where he also retired as Store Manager in 2010. Simultaneously, Milton lead his family-owned Office Cleaning Service for some 35 years.

In 1971, Milton was united in holy matrimony to Artherola Mary Green. Together, they established a loving and Christian home where they raised three children; Willie Earl, Milton, III, and Latoya.
Over the last few years as Milton’s health waned, his bride of 51 years, Artherola, lovingly and selflessly, served as caretaker. She remained by his side and was with him as he passed into the light of the Lord.

Milton’s memory will be cherished by his devoted wife, Artherola; two sons, Willie Earl Danzy (Sharon) and Milton Wiley, III; one daughter, Latoya Sharon Wiley; all of Gainesville, Florida; his mother, Loretha Timmons Wiley; one sister, Alice Mae Wiley Mills; three brothers, Melvin Wiley, Robert Lee Wiley (Janice), and Jimmie Wiley; one brother-in-law, Moses Green, Gainesville, FL, and two sisters-in-law; Annie Mae Weeks of Wolverton Springs, FL, and Teresa Young (John) of Gainesville, FL; two granddaughters, Deasia Danzy, and Lakayla Wiley; one grandson, Daniel Rayford, and two great-grandsons; all of Gainesville, FL. He will also be greatly missed by his two aunts, Margaret Wiley Thompson, Lake Wales, FL, and Ella Wiley, Lockport, NY; a multitude of cousins, nieces, and nephews. Milton also leaves to mourn a God-son, Arthur L. Thompson, Jr., and three dear friends: Fred Batie, Jimmy Bryant and Larry Walker. He was preceded in death by his father, Milton Wiley, Sr.

Anyone who knew Milton, knew he worked tirelessly for the benefit and well-being of his family. Regardless of his demanding work schedule, Milton would always attend family gatherings, reunions, and special events. He was a noble husband, father, brother, and son. He tried to help as he smiled the whole day through. He served and loved his Master and tried His will to do, always helping others— a life so sweet, so kind and true.
