Obituary for Mozel Dicks

Mozel was born on November 27, 1924 in Barnwell, South Carolina to the late Joe and Mary Frank. She was the oldest of nine children. She attended public schools within the South Carolina school system.

Mozel was united in Holy Matrimony to Alonzo Dicks, Sr. in 1947. They relocated to Jacksonville, Florida in 1956. Once her children became of age, she was employed with Shaw Frozen Food for 18 years. In her community, she was a member of the Eastern Star, Chapter 181. She volunteered her services at Community Advisory Council. She was also a member of SHADCO and the Incomparable Ladies. Her hobbies included cooking large meals for her family.

Mozel joined New Redeem Baptist Church when she came to Florida, where she served in the choir. She later joined Greater Macedonia Baptist Church (GMBC) of Northside located at 3333 Franklin Street. Her love for music took her back to the choir until November 1990. GMBC moved to 1880 Edgewood Ave, November 1990, she chose to remain at the old location which was brought by First Samuels Baptist Church. After her husband of 56 years passed away, she returned to GMBC in November 2003, to be near her daughter and family.

Mozel was a very caring, compassionate, and thoughtful person. She was willing to help others whenever she could. She was a born nurturer. Her memory will forever live in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, family and friends. After a long illness Mozel departed this life on January 15, 2019.

Mozel leaves to cherish her memories; a sister, Rebecca Frank; children, Horace Dicks (Jeanette), Alonzo Dicks (Sharon), Glory Dixon (Herman), and Charlie Dicks (Gloria); grandchildren, Twanya Dicks (Demetris), Audrea Jones (Terrence), Herman Dixon Jr., Andrew Dixon and Honri Dicks (Marcelline); great–grandchildren, Ausjah Pender, Jacelynn Dicks, Joshua Dixon, Levi Corbie, Isaiah Jones, Cameron Jones, Amire Muller, and Laila Jones; great great-grandchild, Keith Carter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

The funeral service for Mozel Dicks will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, January 19th, 2019 at the Greater Macedonia Baptist Church 1880 Edgewood Ave West, Jacksonville, FL 32209. The visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Friday, January 18th, 2019 at the Funerals By T. S. Warden 4315 North Main Street, Jacksonville, FL 32206. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery.
