On Wednesday, August 31, 1932, a son, brother, cousin, uncle, husband, father - Jim Lee McGahee, II - was born to the late Jim Lee and Julia McGahee. Jim was also proceeded in death by his brother- Leroy McGahee and his sister - Ruby Lee Farmer.
Jim attended public schools through the 10th grade in Jacksonville Beach. Because of his love for family, he was 2 years short of graduating to be of support to his parents and siblings.
On November 26, 1952, a handsome Jim enlisted into the US Air Force. A year later he proposed to the lovely Katherine Mason and they were united in Holy Bonds of Matrimony on November 21, 1953. Prior to honorable discharge, Jim received 2 special recognitions namely National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
Jim worked for Barnett Jewelers for a number of years and retired from Hertz Rent-A-Car after 34 years, and Florida Community College after 21 years as Lieutenant McGahee. While employed at FCCJ, Jim completed his High School education and received his diploma. What an accomplishment!
Jim was an entrepreneur/partner for A1 Security, Lee Security and Muffs Security Services for many years. He proudly drove Bus 223 as a contractor for Duval County School System and M C Harris Bus Company.
Jim began his Christian journey in 1986 when he joined The Church of God Auditorium now known as Sanctuary of Praise. In the local church, Bro. Jim served as a member of the Benevolence, Mission, Usher, Men’s and Transportation Ministries.
In the 60s, Jim enjoyed photography at Royal Art Studios and bowled for a team bearing the same name. In December 2012, just when Jim had no intention of being a “model” he made the cover of Community Hospice Christmas Edition which also hit The Florida Star.
Jim leaves to cherish these and other precious memories to his devoted wife of 67 years - Katherine and their legacy: 7 children - Sheral, Wendall Keith (Consuelo), Cynthia (Antonio), Sophia (Darrell), Shaftan, Vonetta (Roderick) and Jim, III. These 7 begat 20 grandchildren. These 20 grandchildren begat 17 great-grandchildren and these 17 great grandchildren begat 5 great great grandchildren Jim was loved by a host of extended family and friends.
