Obituary for NATHANIEL David THOMAS

Nathaniel David Thomas better known as “The Cake Man” was born on November 13, 1962 to Charlie Thomas, Jr. and Nettie Lee Thomas, and was raised in Jacksonville, Florida. He was surrounded by love from his parents and family members. He graduated from Stanton Senior High School, and later became a faithful member of Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Green Cove Springs, Florida.

David was a joy to be around and always kept a positive attitude about life. He was known to give advice because he genuinely cared about people. He loved making people happy, which led him into his most famous profession. In working alongside his aunt Pauline Johnson, it was discovered that he held a love for cooking. Aunt Pauline nurtured his God given talent and gave him recipes that surpassed all others. He worked tireless alongside his brother and friend, Charlie B. The two dynamic duals covered many miles throughout Jacksonville and was soon sought after for their many dishes of tasty cuisine. David loved cooking various dishes, but one of his most famous creations was his Apple Nut Cake. The recipe was passed on to him from aunt Pauline, and this cake alone could have made David famous. However, David was a humble soul and downplayed his cooking skills. He was often over heard giving the credit and glory to God. That was David’s Recipe for LIFE!

David departed this life on Friday, October 7, 2016. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nettie Lee Thomas.

David leaves to cherish his memory a loving father, Charlie Thomas, Jr.; special aunt, Pauline Johnson; son, Terrence Phelps; twelve sisters and brothers, Tina Wilson, Hanson Thomas, Alfreda Lincoln, Charlie B. Thomas (Sharon), Sheryl T. Coleman, Nina Wynn, Rosemary Hickmon, Callie Cannon (Alonzo), Ruth Bazemore (Humphrey), Latrisa Snow, Rodney Thomas, and Sedrick Thomas (Tonya); a host of nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
