Oddie Van Lawrence was born January 10,1948 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Jacob and Marie Lawrence. Oddie Van was educated at Gilbert Senior High School in Jacksonville, Florida. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served several years. He later met and married Anna Doris Lawrence.

Oddie departed this life on Wednesday, November 14, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Marie Lawrence; son, Karl Jeffery; sisters, Dr. Rudyne Sherfield, Molly Newsome, Ella Mae Lawrence, Gloria Stephens and Beverly Dawson; brothers, Jacob Lawrence Jr. and Leon Lawrence.

Oddie leaves to mourn his wife, Anna Doris Lawrence; children, Reginald (Linda) Jeffery, Martin (Carol) Jeffery, Beverly (Darrell) Bell, Karen (Michael) Copeland; grandchildren, Eugenia (Kevin) Leonard, Brandy Burton, Anika, Jamal, Kia, Davion, Brittany, Bryan, Cameron, and Myianna Jeffery, Reginald Hartley, Tumeca, Darrell Bell, Kenecio (Phylicia) Wainwright, Fredrick (Christina) Wainwright, Alexis, India and Destiny Green; 10 great-grandchildren include Jamal Boswell Jr., Deja Johnson and Rashard Johnson; sisters, Marie Emery, Elder Brenda McGriff; sister-in-law, Mae Lawrence; brothers, Bobby and Issac Lawrence; several aunts and uncles and a host of nieces and nephews.
