Obituary for Oscar McKeller Jr.

Oscar McKeller, Jr., affectionately known as “Big O”, was born April 5, 1942 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Oscar McKeller, Sr. and Hattie Hall McKeller and made his transition on Wednesday, March 10, 2021.

Oscar attended the Duval County Public Schools and graduated from Mathew W. Gilbert High School, Class of 1960. He joined the United States Army and fought in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1970. He was a member of the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment and received multiple metals of honor including the Bronze Star. After his military service, Oscar was employed by the City of Jacksonville, Duval County Animal Care and Control Unit, where he retired after many years of service. Oscar was a member of Abyssinia Missionary Baptist Church, where he faithfully served on the Male Usher Board and Transportation Ministry until his health prevented him from carrying out these duties. 

Oscar was preceded in death by his parents and he leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Jacqulin Miller McKeller; daughters, Jacqueline Wilbert and Evelyn Richards; brother, Cleave McKeller; sister, Evelyn Mackey; grandchildren, Shantrell (Jason) Merkison, Kimberly (Eric) Stovall, and Jessie J. Richards III; great-grandchildren, J'Kerria, Jason II, Kimon, Zaire, Jay'vion, Ke'Mari, Er'rian, Journee, and J'Mauri; god-daughters, Florence Alexander and Louise Leroy; and a host of other family members and friends.

The funeral service for Oscar McKeller Jr will be held 11 AM Friday, March 19th, 2021 at the Abyssinia Missionary Baptist Church, 10325 Interstate Center Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32218. The visitation will be 5 - 7:00 PM, Thursday, March 18th, 2021 at the Funerals by T.S. Warden ,4315 North Main Street, Jacksonville, FL 32206. Interment in Jacksonville National Cemetery.
