Obituary for Oscar Charles Williams III

Oscar Charles Williams III left this plane of existence on May 25, 2022. He was 72 years old. He went peacefully in his sleep, at home, where he was surrounded by loved ones.

He was born on April 12,1950, in Norristown, PA, where he spent his childhood and grew up around a host of family and friends. He attended Norristown High School and graduated in 1968. Oscar joined the United States Navy in 1969 and served for 20 years until he retired in January of 1990.
Medals, Decorations, Ribbons, Awards and Commendations:
Good Conduct Award (3)
Navy Expeditionary Medal
Navy Unit Commendation
USCG Special Operations Service Ribbon
Marksman M-16 Rifle
Sea Service Deployment Ribbon
Battle Efficiency “E” Ribbon

During his time in the navy, he served as the ships barber, where he was able to converse with his fellow shipmates, swapping stories and advice on life and love.

He was a son, a brother, a sailor, a father, a husband, a cousin, a nephew, a friend and most of all One Cool Cat. He was so many other things to so many people throughout his life, but to us he was just loved. His presence in a room was always felt and he never met a human being that he couldn’t find some common ground with. He always made people feel at home in his presence.
He would often share his “dad-tales”, stories of his past and time in the service. Of which, we never quite knew how much was true, and how much was somewhat embellished. Either way, he could have you hanging on every word and in awe of the eventful path he rode.
He was a force. He stood proud in his beliefs and rooted in his way of life. Some would say he was bull-headed or stubborn, and he was, but he had every right to be just that. As he grew older his demeanor softened, but only to allow the assistance he required.
He was grateful. He truly appreciated the relationships he developed over the years, as well as the years themselves.
He lived life to the fullest. He spent his younger days sailing the seas on big ships and hitting the roads on motorcycles and in fast cars. In his later years, he spent his time with his family and all of the extra family we have collected along the way.

He said what he wanted when he wanted, often with the most colorful language. His handshake was firm and his voice was deep and strong.
Oscar was a huge fan of comic books, science fiction, fantasy, kung-fu and anime. He loved to watch the sci-fi channel or catch the newest Marvel or DC movie on the big screen, with his family. He has seen every episode of Dragon Ball Z, which I know, because I’ve seen many of them, with him, myself. It was his love for these genres of entertainment that helped to facilitate relationships with so many young people who he also had the pleasure of passing on some of his life lessons.

Oscar Charles Williams III was an ordinary man, but an extraordinary part of our world. His presence in our family will be missed tremendously.
