Obituary for Otis C. Mobley Sr.

Otis C. Mobley, Sr. was born March 8, 1940 to Janie Mobley and Horace Small, Sr. in Fernandina Beach, Florida. He confessed Christ at an early age, uniting with New Zion Baptist Church. Otis attended Bryant Academy and transferred to Peck High School in Fernandina Beach, Florida. Otis also attended Florida Memorial College in St. Augustine, Florida receiving his Bachelor’s Degree.

Otis was an educator in the Nassau County Schools, where he taught for 35 years. He was a chartered member of Silver Square Lodge 703, which he joined September 17, 1977 and held office as Jr. Warden, delinquently until his health failed.

Otis loved shopping at Flea Markets and collecting antiques. He has collected Hess trucks for about 10 years. He also was a big baseball cards and coin collector. Otis loved doing art for the school contest with his famous gingerbread house for the competition at the Callahan Fair and won awards. He loved fishing and gardening. He loved planting his flowers and fruit trees and loved sitting in his yard watching them bloom and seeing the beauty he created.

Otis departed this life Saturday, November 23, 2019. He was preceded in death by his mother, Janie Mobley and father, Horace Small, Sr.; stepfather, Vincent Calhoun.

Otis leaves to cherish his precious memories: a loving wife of 56 years, Jeanette Mobley; sons, Otis Mobley, Jr. and Anton Mobley (Dakiti); daughter, Tonya Mobley; grandchildren, Giovanni, Danielle, London, Colin, Jeana’, Calvin and Erin; great-granddaughter, Kori; brother, Horace Small; sister, Patricia Mendoza; cousin/sister, Gloria Walker; sister-in-law, Albertha Anderson (Richie); brother-in-law, Vincent Mobley; devoted nephew, James Johnson; goddaughter, Lorraine Valentine and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be held SATURDAY, 11:00 am at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 10 S 10th Street Fernandina Beach, Florida 32034.
