Obituary for Patricia Gail Rhodes

Print
Patricia Gail Rhodes was born on December 18, 1946, as Patricia Gail Smith in Jacksonville, Florida, where she was born and raised. She is preceded in death by her father, Roy Chandler Smith, and mother, Pearle May Smith.
Pat leaves behind a loving family: her daughters, Nancy Lynn (George) Greer, Cynthia Diane George, and Tracie Michelle Rhodes; grandchildren, Timothy Michael Greer, Brittany Michelle George, Crystal Michelle George; great-grandchildren, Jacob Lee Vinson, Brayden Thomas Joiner, Isaiah Michael Greer, Abigayle Marrie George, Austin Lee Vinson, Kailynn Jane Todd, Mason Lee Vinson, Haylee Michelle Vinson, Levi Michael Todd, Julian James Onnie Nickless; sister, Linda Ruth (Charles) Moatz; brother, David Eugene (Joan) Smith; nieces, Sammi Smith and Jessica Strange; nephew, Stephen Moatz, and many other family members and friends.

Growing up, Pat enjoyed riding horses and sometimes catching a ride on the back of a motorcycle! Pat loved bonfires and playing the guitar. She enjoyed reading novels, especially love stories! In her early days, she crocheted several afghans. She loved bowling and playing cards, particularly “Canasta.” Thanksgiving was one of Pat’s favorite holidays. After feasting at her sister’s house, all the ladies would sit around the table and enjoyably work on a holiday craft, especially Pat, as she would be the pickiest and the last to finish.

Pat was a graduate of DuPont High’s class of 1964. She first worked for Naval Air Station in Jacksonville. Pat then drove for Greyhound Bus Lines from 1980-1989. While working there she was stationed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Miami, Florida. For many years before and after driving for Greyhound, Pat was a school bus driver, as was her daughter, Cindy, and sister-in-law, Joan. All the kids that rode Ms. Rhodes’ bus loved her and she loved her job! When her health deteriorated, she became a bus attendant, so she could continue helping the students. It was a sad day when she had to retire from the bus company as it brought happiness and joy to her life as well as many friends.

After fighting for her life, she knew it was time to let go, and let God take over. Pat passed away on Friday, November 9, 2018, taking her last breath here on Earth and exhaling in Heaven, where she is no longer struggling or in pain. She is with our Heavenly Lord watching over us.
