Obituary for Patricia Dicks Thomas

Patricia Kay Dicks Thomas, affectionally known as “Pat”, was born on Friday, February 3, 1950 to Annie Mae Dicks in Jacksonville, Florida. She accepted Christ as her Savior early in life as a true believer at Mount Ararat in Jacksonville, Florida. She was educated in the Duval County Public School system and matriculated from the New Stanton Senior High School, class of 1967. She participated in various activities in school, most notably, as a dancing majorette.

Born from the union to the late Lawrence A. Holmes Sr., in 1969, were her two children, Natasha Latrice and Lawrence “Chip” Holmes Jr. Her children and grandchildren will forever recount her as a dedicated and devoted mother who always had a word of sound advice or loving encouragement. On May 1, 1993 Patricia Kay married the love of her life, Vernon Thomas. As a result of this marriage, she entered into an amazingly loving and accepting family who counted her among their number. The happy couple enjoyed 28 years of blissful marriage as best friends, traveling partners, and serving their church ministries together.

She was a faithful and dutiful member of The Sanctuary at Mount Calvary, under the pastoral leadership of Dr. John Allen Newman, where she spent many years in service as the director of the Educational Ministry, as the Business Administration Manager and as a Deaconess. Because of this unwavering care and love for others, Pat was extremely proud of her work at the Eartha White Nursing Home early on in her work life. She went on to accomplish much in her long and fruitful career starting in 1968 for Operator Services at Southern Bell. Because of her diligent work ethic, she worked her way up to a Human Resource Manager, retiring in 1998. To know Pat was to know of her love for her hometown team, the Jacksonville Jaguars. You could find her every Sunday during football season in her Black and Teal. The many friends she treated as family, will remember her infectious laugh, her keen wit and her beautiful smile.

She leaves to forever cherish her memory, her loving and devoted husband Vernon; her two children Natasha Austin (Aaron), Lawrence “Chip” Holmes (Mia); stepchildren, Vernon L. Thomas, Kelli B. Thomas, and Kesha Murphy (Curtis); grandchildren, Cameron Holmes, Diamond Boston, and Donovan Boston; great-granddaughter, Camari Holmes and great-grandson, Levi Yisreal; her siblings, Lewis Dicks, Gail Mobley (Willie); special friend of 69 years, Joyce Sanders (Harold) and special friend since 7th grade, Helen DeBrew; also a host of grands, great-grands, nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.
