Queen (Queenie) Esther Roberts Mitchell was born December 17, 1966 to the late Thomas Roberts, Sr. and Thelma Brown in Jacksonville, Florida. She attended the Duval County Public School Systems, graduating from William M. Raines High School. Queenie was employed by I.M. Sulzbacher Center for the homeless, 13 years before she retired in 2010 due to her illness. Queen had a gift to help those in need, that’s why the residents at I.M. They would always have nice stories to tell about how she was good to them during their stay at the center.

Queenie inherited her name “Queen” from her late maternal grandmother, Queen Esther Foster. She loved her name “Queen” which she took pride in filling it out and living up to great standards. She was a true Queen in the eyes of those who loved her. In 2008 she bought a home, where she hosted family gatherings for holiday’s, repasses and cook-outs in order to bring family and friends together. Queen also loved to go shopping and would purchase things to give away to family and friends if they needed it or to express her love. Queen was a great mother to her 4 beautiful daughters and grandchildren. Queen was preceded in death by her eldest sister, Mary Miller.
