Obituary for Rebecca Ruth "Ruth" Jackson
Rebecca Ruth Jackson was born on September 18, 1939 to the late Hardy and Sarah Jackson in Jacksonville, Florida. She graduated from Matthew Gilbert High School in 1957. Ms. Jackson furthered her education by becoming a licensed registered nurse and she began working at St. Catherine Nursing Home from 1974 until she became a private sitter at Cathedral Foundation, from the mid-’80’s until1994, when she suffered a stroke. She resided in Park Ridge Nursing Home until she was admitted to St. Vincent’s Hospital.
Ruth passed away peacefully on November 22, 2020, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. She was preceded in death by two sisters, five brothers, and three brothers-in-law, Hattie B. Fields, Estelle Coleman, Hardy Jackson, Hazel Jackson, Daniel Jackson, Joseph Jackson, David Jackson, Wilber Fields, Alphonso Coleman, and Ezekiel Haynes.
Ruth, as she was affectionately known, leaves to cherish her memory: three adult children, son, Leroy S. Yeartie, Sr.; daughter, Sharon D. Jackson; and son, Dion D. Jackson; six grandchildren, Kenyetta Y. Yeartie Powell (Corey), Sharrie S. L. Smith (Yeartie), Leroy S. Yeartie, Jr., Ericka Jackson (Chris), Shantrell Glover, and Michael Glover III; eight-great-grandchildren, Tatyana Yeartie, Aubry Yeartie, Timothy Walker, Adrian Yeartie, J’Taylor Glover, Jdynn Glover, JL’ia Glover, and Jbryl Glover; one great great-grandchild, Abriell Mesidor; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends, all of whom loved her dearly. Ruth also leaves behind three siblings, Grace Fountain, Mary Haynes, and Julia Priester.
The funeral service for Rebecca Ruth Jackson will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, December 2nd, 2020 at the Samuel C. Rogers Jr. Memorial Chapel 4315 N. Main Street Jacksonville, FL 32206. The visitation will be 4:00 - 6:00 pm, Tuesday, December 1st, 2020 at the Funerals by T.S. Warden 4315 North Main Street Jacksonville, FL 32206. Interment in Restlawn Cemeteries.
