Obituary for Regina Phillips

Regina Louise Phillips affectionately known as “Dolly” was born on July 19, 1952 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Retha Bell Lockhart and Joseph R. Lewis. She was baptized at an early age at the Abyssinia Baptist Church. Regina recently joined the Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Elbert Moreland, Jr. Regina attended the local schools in Duval County graduating from Old Stanton High School. While attending high school Regina was in the band and held the position as head majorette.

Regina married the late Tyrone Phillips on June 6, 1969 and two children were born from this union, Dawn Celeste Phillips and Terrance Tyrone Phillips. She was a military housewife and mother during her children school years. Regina later was employed with St. Vincent’s Hospital, serving more than 20 years, and she also worked at Sam’s Wholesale Club. She was well known and loved at the Hogan Creek Towers, where she resided.

Regina departed this life on Saturday, October 24, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents, Retha Bell Lockhart and Joseph R. Lewis; son, Terrance Tyrone Phillips.

Regina leaves to cherish loving memories, one daughter, Dawn Celeste Phillips; grandchildren, Daneshia Dozier, Terrance Phillips, Jr., and Terrika Owens; great-grandchildren, James Griffin, III, and Chanel Owens; aunt, Barbara Brown (Robert); brother-in-laws, Samuel Phillips (Carol), Juan Phillips, Sr. (Zelda); nephews, Juan Jr., and Rolando; 1st cousins, Mamie Stills, Sherlann Mealer, and Katie Ford (Marrion); other cousins, Reginald, Bruce, Carl, Juliann, Bridgett, Zackery, Pastor Arthur (Angela), Harrison, David (Janice), Spade (Denise), Finnie (Danielle), Nicole (Tony), Leonard, Joe, other relatives and a host of loving family members and special friends, Austin Keene, Kenneth McTeer, Rhonda Silver, Barbara Jacobs, and Mr. & Mrs. Samuel Green.

The chapel service for Regina Phillips will be held 11:00 am Saturday, at the Samuel C. Rogers Jr. Memorial Chapel 4315 N. Main Street. The visitation will be 5-8PM, Friday, at the mortuary.
