Obituary for Rentie Weston Jr.

Rentie Weston, Jr. was born on August 6, 1939, Jacksonville, Florida to Rentie Weston Sr. and Lizzie Strange Weston. Upon his mother’s passing he was reared by his father and his second wife, Mrs.Geromie Hall Weston. Rentie was the only child. He was baptized in his youth as a member of Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida.

Rentie was a graduate of New Stanton High School, Class of 1957, home of the Blue Devils, where he played on the football team. He received a football scholarship and subsequently attended Bethune Cookman College and was a member of the Wildcat football team. He graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Science. He married Marian Annette Jackson and their union was blessed with five children, Larry D. Weston, Rentie Weston, III, Ronnie L. Weston, Mark R. Weston and Kimberly R. Weston. He was predeceased by his parents and his son, Mark.

Rentie was employed by Duval County Schools as a History Teacher at Northwestern Junior High School, Darnell Cookman Junior High School, and James Weldon Johnson Junior High School. He then became a Counselor at the local all black boys’ home for juvenile delinquents. Because of the impact he made on the lives of the youth, he began a career with the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice. He retired after 32 years with DJJ.

Rentie enjoyed watching football, fishing, good music, and loved having a good time. Many knew him for his sense of humor and keeping it real. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
