Obituary for REV. ALTON "Moon" ROGERS

Reverend Alton (Moon) Rogers, also affectionately called by his grandkids, “Granddaddy Altee,” was born in Jacksonville, Florida on October 24, 1950 to the parents of the late Reverend W.Q. Rogers and the late Emma Singleton Rogers. Alton was educated in the Duval County Public School system. He attended New Stanton High School and was a proud graduate and represented the Class of 1968. Rev. Rogers was a Brick Masonry by trade and worked at the shipyard for many years. God blessed him with gifted carpenter hands, which he used to build creative furniture, outdoor grills and tables, as well as medical gadgets to help patients improve their quality of living.

At an early age, Alton confessed Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and was baptized and became a member of what is now Greater Mt. Salem Missionary Baptist Church. Under the leadership of Rev. Charles E. Banks, Alton Rogers became licensed as a minister and in 2005 became ordained as a Reverend. Rev. Rogers served faithfully as a Reverend at Mt. Salem Baptist Church and United Tabernacle, teaching and preaching God’s Word, even in sickness, until his death. Rev. Rogers was the epitome of a “true soldier in God’s army.” He had many reasons to complain, but never did. A true man of God!

Alton was united in Holy Matrimony to Cassandra “Elaine” Rogers on November 24, 1972. As a result of this union, there are three children; Rhonda, Gerald and Altar, twelve grandkids, and one great-grandchild.

Alton was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Cassandra “Elaine” Rogers, his parents, Rev. W.Q. and Emma Rogers, granddaughter, Akeela Westbrook, sisters, Eula Conway, Arnetha Todd, Rosa Lee Nelson and Emma Rogers; brother, Willie Q. Rogers.
