Obituary for Richard Melton Jr.

Richard Melton, Jr, son of Richard and Essie Melton, was born in Callahan, Florida on June 13, 1946. Richard was nicknamed ‘Booda’ at an early age by family and friends. He graduated from Pine Forest Community School in 1964 and then enlisted in the United States Army in the same year, where he served for 3 years. While in the Army in Washington, D.C., Richard met Ruth Rankins who he married in 1968, and had been married to her until his homegoing. Richard was also the father of two sons. After leaving the service, Richard worked for the Internal Revenue Service and retired in 2000.

Richard gave his life to Jesus in 1983 and served the Lord faithfully for the last 35 years as a Sunday school teacher. During his Christian life, he was a member of North Jacksonville Baptist Church, Norwood Baptist Church, and Highlands Baptist Church. Richard was a loving husband and father and a shining light in a dark world. He was a blessing to all that knew him and he will be dearly missed. Richard departed this life on Thursday, November 7, 2019 in Jacksonville, FL.

Richard leaves behind his wife, Ruth Carolyn Melton; children, Gregory Melton and Jamie (Sophia) Melton; grandchildren, Leilani, Kylia and Leland; nephews and nieces, Anthony (Tangi) Melton, George (Anita) Melton, Jr., Lakeysa (Anthony) Dunn; and a host of other relatives, cousins and friends.
