Obituary for Robert Lee Nelson

A Time To be Born
Robert Nelson was born on August 23, 1955, born to Leroy Nelson Sr. and Ozie Mae Nelson with whom he reunites with in heaven. He is also reunited in heaven with sister, Shirley Nelson Evans, and brother, Alphonso J. Pope Sr.

He grew up in Jacksonville, Florida.  He attended Andrew Jackson High School and graduated with the Class of 1973.  He went on to further his education by attending Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) and was a proud member of The Marching 100 as a french horn player. Music ministered to his soul as he enjoyed listening to different genres from gospel, jazz to rhythm and blues. Robert was a master of chef in his community.  His talent as a grill chef was respected by all that called him friend.  His secret recipe for every crab boil and fried turkey was a mixture of the love and appreciation he held for family and friends. Robert also had a green thumb. He loved gardening and caring for plants.

A Time for Love
Robert was married to his wife, Brenda, for forty-three years.  They became high school sweethearts at the age of 17 and 18 years old.  During their union, they both vowed to love for eternity.  Their love stood on the principles of 1 Corinthians 13:4, love is patient and kind, love does not envy or boast, it keeps no records of wrongs. The two love birds met through Robert’s sister, Linda.

A Time to Plant
From his union with Brenda, two beautiful daughters were born. As a proud father, Robert delighted in the accomplishments of his girls. Eldest, Kelandra followed her father's footsteps by becoming a FAMU rattler graduate.  While his youngest, Janelle also took root in the collegiate town in Tallahassee earning her degree at Florida State University. They both went on to pursue and obtain their master’s degrees. His PROUDEST accomplishment was raising two God fearing women who understood a relationship with God is priority. Both Brenda and Robert instilled in their children the importance of humility and to be respectful towards others. He gave the greatest parts of himself to his children and grandchildren and for that his LEGACY will live on.
