Obituary for Sam Brown Jr.
On October 26, 1947, Sam Brown, Jr. was born to Sam and Malinda Brown in Fernandina Beach, Florida. Sam Jr. was baptized at First Missionary Baptist Church in 1960 by Rev. John F. Neal. He joined Choir No. 2 under Willie Mae Ashley and the Boy Scouts of America under Archie B. Coakley. Sam Jr. attended elementary through high school at Peck High. He was very athletic and excelled in basketball, football, and baseball. Sam Jr. was a graduate of the Class of 1965.
After high school, in 1966, Sam Jr. joined the United States Army where he was Sp. 4 and did a tour of duty in Germany and Vietnam and received an Honorable Discharge.
In 1969, he married Brenda Richardson, and had three children: Desmond, Geri, and J. Eric.
In 1982, Sam Jr. married Carolyn LeGree who preceded him in death in 2012.
Sam Jr. was a Master Carpenter and worked construction for 45 years.
He was also preceded in death by father, Sam Brown; mother, Malinda Brown; and brothers, Matthew Hill, Earnest Hill, and Frederick Haywood.
Mr. Brown is survived by his children: Karen Jones of Louisville, KY; Tara Legree of Valrico, FL; Samuel (Cheri) Jones, Jr. of Valrico, FL; Desmond (Charolette) Brown of Valliant, OK; Geri Brown of Stockbridge, GA; J. Eric Brown of Fernandina Beach, FL; Ticco Wright, Quintin Brown, Sr., and Paris Brown all of Gainesville, FL. grandchildren: Timothy Harris, Sharae'Necia Burrell, Delicia (Channing) Chamberlain, N'Kele (Taylor) Brown, Jamar Jones, Rozanda Thomas, Arlene Jordan, Malcolm Brown, Christian Jones, Quintin Brown, Jr., Jaidyn Brown, Kendra Ford, Nicholas Ford, Donovan Ford, Tamya Smith, Ticco Wright, Jr., Elijah Wright, Zyion Wright, and Juele Wright; siblings: Silas Larry (Barbara) Brown and Malinda Brown both of Miami, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
