Obituary for Sarah P. Washington
Sarah Pearl Washington was born to the late Mark and Geraldine Washington on January 14, 1953 in Oglethorpe, Georgia. Sarah attended Macon County Public Schools and graduated from D.F. Douglas High School in 1971. She went on to take many clerical courses and moved to Jacksonville, FL during the mid-1970’s.
Sarah worked for the School Board before transferring to the City of Jacksonville where she retired from the Pension Office. Being the worker bee she was, she started a second career with the Internal Revenue Service and also retired.
Sarah was baptized into Christ at the Northside Church of Christ in Jacksonville, FL in 1981 where she was a faithful and hardworking soldier in the army of the Lord until God saw fit to call her home.
On Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at 4:23 am, God called Sarah to rest. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Mark Washington, Jr.; and her closest and dearest friend, Helen McCloud. Her love and memory will live forever in the hearts of all who loved her.
Sarah leaves to cherish her memories her one and only devoted child, her daughter, Kendra Jones; her son in law, Allen Jones; and her 2 beautiful granddaughters, Ambrosia “Bro” and Kalais “KK” Jones; sisters, Georgia Washington, Edith Washington, Linda Washington, of Atlanta, GA, and Sandra Washington of Oglethorpe, GA; brother, Jerry Washington of Ellaville, GA; 5 nieces; 4 nephews; and host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and her loving church family. Sarah also leaves dear friends, Clausell Smith and her “riding partner, Shirley Gibson to honor and reverence her memory.
Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. An angel lived among us, A gift from God above. She showered us with kindness and shared with us her love.
The funeral service for Sarah Pearl Washington will be held 11:00 am Friday, December 4th, 2020 at the Northside Church of Christ, 4736 Avenue B., Jacksonville, FL 32209. The visitation will be 5:00-7:00 pm, Thursday, December 3rd, 2020 at the Funerals by T.S. Warden, 4315 North Main Street, Jacksonville, FL 32206.
