Obituary for Shandrell Thomas (Perkins)

Shandrell Perkins Thomas, 36, quietly departed this life Saturday, February 29. 2020. Shandrell was born December 23, 1983 to Sandra Lynn Perkins and James Perkins, Sr. Shandrell, a native of Duval County in Jacksonville, Florida, was a 2002 alumni of Jean Ribault Senior High School. She continued her education at the University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida, where she became a loving sister of the Epsilon Upsilon Chapter of Gamma Sigma Sigma National Service Sorority Incorporated.

A loving and passionate mother, Shandrell treasured her son, Kenton, and their times together. Shandrell was also a devoted kindergarten teacher at New Berlin Elementary School for years. Her love for her students was undeniable. She consistently focused on enriching their lives through her genuine love of education.

Shandrell lived her life to the fullest and enjoyed helping others. She had a vivacious personality and always made the people around her smile. Shandrell’s caring spirit and supportive soul was felt by all those she encountered. To know her was to love her.

Shandrell is survived by her son, Kenton J. King; her step-children, Spe’shal Thomas and Kah’moni Thomas; husband, Kondwani Thomas; brother, James Perkins, Jr.; mother figure, Ms. Esther Bruce; godsister, Shakesa Valentine; goddaughter, Deneshia Singleton; uncle, Gregory Perkins (Mary Perkins); aunts, Frances Robinson, Geri Duhart, Ernestine Jefferson; and a host of adopted nieces, nephews, extended family, and adoring friends.

Shandrell is preceded in death by both her mother and father, Sandra Lynn Perkins and James Perkins, Sr.
