Obituary for Shirley Clear Jones

Shirley Clear Jones, age 73, passed away peacefully Monday, July 20, 2020 due to cancer. She was born December 2, 1946 in Limón, Costa Rica to Thelma Hamilton and Felipe Pryce.  She left her beautiful Costa Rica in June 1969 and migrated to the United States where she began an amazing life journey that would touch many souls in New York, Alabama, South Carolina, Louisiana, and eventually her final resting place of Jacksonville, Florida.

Shirley worked for years as a caregiver to others and was delighted to care for them as she would want to be cared for. She used her business, Shirley’s Personal Care, to bring comfort and joy to families for over 40 years. She ministered to every family she worked with and never made them feel as if she was just doing a job, they became her family. She was doing God’s work and was blessed to work until she became sick in June 2020.

Shirley was passionate about her love for God and making everyone she encountered feel like family.  Sister Shirley, as many of her church family called her, gave her life to the Lord and was a devoted member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She would provide you with a remedy for everything that ailed you and made sure you didn’t leave her home without one of her famous smoothies. She had a love for bargain shopping that made everyone smile and left them in amazement when you found out how little she spent on it.  She spent six out of seven days hunting for a great deal, so she could share it with those she loved. On the 7th day she did as God directed, she rested.

Shirley devoted her life to her children and always sacrificed for the good of her family, all while encouraging and supporting them in every phase of their lives.  She will be remembered by her children as selfless, altruistic and always smiling even when times were tough. She never complained about the tough times, but prayed and left it in God’s hands, then looked towards a better future.

Shirley took pride in being a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and prayer partner to all.  All whom loved Shirley dearly will never forget her kindness, compassion, grace, tenacity, and undying love and caring for them.  As she battled cancer in the end, she was calm, serene, and thanked everyone who provided her with support. Her diagnosis gave her every right to be mad, cry, or even fall into depression, but instead she loved and lived every moment she was given, not even cancer could rob her of the sweet caring woman she was. She was a living example of Ephesians 4:31 – “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”

Shirley will be forever cherished and remembered by her children, Paulina Thomas, Paul (Tamika) Jones, and Pamela Jones; grandchildren, Tanzania, Zarion, Lyrhec, and Amaré, as well as, her siblings, Lesgar Grant, Myrna Grant, and Glenn Pryce.  She also leaves behind a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
