Shirley Delores Mercer Kimbrough was born on January 14, 1947 to Jesse James and Minnie Lee Haywood in Jacksonville, Florida. She confessed Christ as a teenager uniting with Lord Jesus Christ in Jacksonville, Florida. Shirley received her education at Stanton Vocational High School. She later met and married Eddie Lee Kimbrough Sr. in Fayetteville, North Carolina on September 8, 1965, from this union two sons and three daughters were born.

Shirley departed this life on Sunday, January 7, 2018. She was preceded in death by her father, Jesse Mercer Sr.; mother, Minnie Lee Mercer; great-grandmother, Alberta Roper; sister, Marion Brinkley; brother, Jesse Mercer Jr.

Shirley leaves to cherish her memories: sons, Eddie Lee Kimbrough Jr. (Carol) and Carlos D. Kimbrough (Angel); daughters, Sharon Kimbrough, Deborah Kimbrough, and Jennifer Payne all of Jacksonville, Florida; sisters, Barbara Dansey of Jacksonville, Florida, Leatrice Harris (Randolph) of Deltona, Florida, Fairbank Stoutamire (Alphonso) of McDonough, Georgia and Carol Roberts of Jacksonville, Florida; brothers, Rudolph Mercer (Ann) of Chicago, Illinois, Willie James Mercer of Jacksonville, Florida and Melvin Mercer of Jacksonville, Florida; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
