Stella was born on December 24, 1953 to Jacob and Mary Lee Mixson II in Jacksonville, Florida. She attended the local schools in Duval County graduating from Robert E. Lee High School. Stella later met and married Willie Watkins.

Stella departed this life on Tuesday, November 27, 2018. She was preceded in death by her father, Jacob Mixson II; mother, Mary Lee Mixson; sister, Gloria Jean Mixson; and brother, Elliott Ray Mixson; nephew, Gregory Mixson.

Stella leaves to cherish her memories a loving and devoted son, Rodney Mixson (LaTonya); grandchildren, Jerrika Mixson, Sirdarius Mixson, Kyla Diamond and Kennard Diamond; great-grandchildren, Khalani and Imari; sisters, Gwendolyn J. Mixson, Diane Jones (Vincent); brothers, Jacob Mixson III, Billy Mixson (Barbara) and Greg Mixson (Gayle); and a host of other relatives and friends.
