Obituary for Thelma Lee Turner (Henry)

Thelma Lee Turner was the first born to Mr. Booker T. Henry and Eldora Hines Henry on August 25, 1949, in Cuthbert, Georgia. She was raised in a loving family and she attended Stanton High School in Jacksonville, Florida. Thelma worked for over 30 years at Baptist Medical Center as a medical laboratory assistant. She was predeceased by her father, Mr. Booker T., Sr.; brothers, Karey Henry, Kelvin Henry, and Welton Henry; and sister, Delores Johnson.

She gave her life to Christ at an early age, joining Holy Temple Tabernacle before becoming a member of the New Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church where she dutifully served as an usher and Vice President of Usher Board #2, as well as many other auxiliaries where she was asked or volunteered to serve, as she loved her church family.

Thelma met the love of her life, Andy Turner, Sr., and to that union three children were born. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. Thelma loved family. She enjoyed cooking family dinners, celebrating life, and being surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Family was very important to her and she showed that love of family through hosting many breakfasts, dinners, and movie nights (making every weekend “A Blockbuster Night’). She was prompt and always on time as she expected us to be as well. She taught us what it truly means to be a family through example and her love has blessed all those whom she has touched.

She leaves to cherish her memories: a devoted and loving husband of 53 years, Andy Turner, Sr.; children, Andy Turner, Jr. (Jobina), Marcus Turner (Robin), and Dana Young (Phil); grandchildren, Jaresia Cushion, Maya Turner, Andy Turner III, Darian Cushion, Jada Turner, Amon Turner, Nia Turner, Amar Turner, Anthony Washington, Phil Young, Jr., Alexia Young, and Patrick Young; great-grandchildren, Ahonnisty Turner, Dylan Turner, Aniylah Washington, Lennox Washington, and Khori Washington; mother, Eldora Henry; sisters, Susie Seward, Patricia Roberts, Glenda Henry, Deborah Henry, Sharon Jones (James), and Lisa Henry; brothers, Booker T. Henry, Jr. (Vanessa), and Greg Henry (Keisha); in-laws, John Turner and Alice Turner (George); a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; best friend, Jackie Ponder; and other relatives and friends. A special thank you to her sister, Susie for all the love and support during her sickness. Thelma will truly be missed.
