Mrs. Tommie Lee Hughes

A diamond is a rare stone that is found after years and years of water, waves tossing it about. It is a native crystalline carbon that is the hardest known mineral, that is usually nearly colorless, that when transparent and free from flaws, is highly valued as a precious stone. That is what you will find in Mrs. Tommie Lee Hughes.

Mrs. Tommie Lee Hughes was born on September 6, 1926 in Albany Georgia. She was the second child of the late Mr. Thomas and Jennie V. Worthy. She had one brother Henry who has passed away and one sister Ella Mae who has passed. As a young girl Tommie loved school and she loved the Lord. At the tender age of seven Tommie Lee was baptized at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Albany Georgia. She graduated from Madison High School in the Class of 1944 and with the support of her parents she quickly enrolled in college. She attended Albany State University and that is where she completed and successfully graduated from the college of cosmetology. The William Washington Beauty College granted her with a Master License in Cosmetology in 1946. She loved making others feel and look beautiful. Tommie Lee is a true giver of her time and talents. In that same year she meet the love of her life Mr. Conley H. Hughes. They married two years later on December 25, 1948 and after they were united in holy matrimony, she was baptized a second time by the late Dr. A.B Coleman Sr. Conley and Tommie Lee celebrated 50 years of marriage with family and friends on December 28, 1998. He passed away on December 19, 2000. His memory however will never be forgotten. Their wonderful union produced three beautiful children, Cheryl, Conley Jr. and Colbert. The three children made them proud grandparents of seven. The grandchildren made them super proud great-grandparents of 13.Tommie Lee has helped to raise, nurture and instill wonderful values in each of them.

Mrs. Tommie Lee Hughes is a woman of many talents. An excellent cook, a great communicator, very creative, who had a love for people that was genuine, giving, wise, humorous, loved fashion, beautiful, strong, highly valued in her family and community.

The funeral service for Tommie Lee Hughes will be held 11AM, Saturday, July 21st, 2018 at the Open Arms Christian Fellowship 2763 Dunn Avenue. The visitation will be 5 - 7PM, Friday, at the mortuary.
