Obituary for Torrance Rickey Hayes Sr.

A Time to Be Born - The Gift of Life was given to Torrance Rickey Hayes Sr. on July 7, 1969 in Jacksonville, Fl , to the late Joseph Hayes and Geraldine Hayes. He is the 3rd son of 11 children.

A Time to Plant - Rick (known to all) received his education through the Duval County School system, graduating from Paxon Senior Hight School in 1988. He was best known for his superior athletic talents for football and basketball (mainly football) and was the star quarterback for The Paxon Eagles football team (wearing the #7) where he received many accolades for his talented throwing and running abilities. It was during this time Rick shot up to 6’5” in stature, subsequently earning him the name “Big Rick” Hayes which he was affectionately called until the time of his passing. This landed him the title of being “One of the greatest ever Paxon Eagles Legend.
He went on to become a semi-truck driver for over 25 years, which he loved, and was employed with First Coast Pallets.
Rick married his wife, Toni Hayes in 2014, and had been happily married for the past 7 years.

A Time to Serve - Rick gave his life to Christ on August 7, 2019@ Open Arms Christian Fellowship, under the leadership of Bishop Leofric Thomas, where he began to truly understand what it meant to be saved by God’s grace. He served as an armor-bearer to the Bishop. Being baptized and giving his life to Christ was one of the proudest moments of his life. In fact, he was so excited about being baptized, he asked if he could “do it again next year.” The Sanctuary was a safe haven for him.

A Time to Rest - Rick entered into the gates of Heaven suddenly on Saturday, February 6, 2021, at age 51. He was preceded in death by his father Joseph Hayes, his big brother Dwayne Hayes, his grandmothers Carolyn Dawson, Minnie Stanley, Eartha Mae Davis; his grandfathers L.W. Dawson, and Frederick Hayes. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend.

A Time to Mourn - Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Matthew 5:4
After that, we are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:17-18
A Time to Remember - A gift from God allowed him to spend the full day of his passing laughing and joking with his entire family, all the way up to an hour before he was called home to be with the Lord. This was an opportunity most of us rarely get.
Rick will always be remembered for the way he impacted our lives with fun, love and overwhelming laughter.
