Vera Arline Sykes 87, of Jacksonville, Florida died peacefully in her sleep on May 1, 2022, at Ortega Gardens Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Jacksonville, Florida She was born to the late Thomas, Sr, and Carnelia Mitchell Arline February 19, 1935, in Callahan, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers Thomas, Jr., John, Warren, David, Doyle, Edgar, and James.
Vera worked at Florida Times Union for many years and retired from Beaver Street Fishery in 2014. She was extremely proud of her family. Mom loved family gatherings, cooking, gospel music and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a very strong and independent lady. She enjoyed her life and loving memories of her family and friends. Even though she lost her battle to this disease, we will continue to always celebrate her life forever.
She preceded in death by her son Leonard Robert. Survivors include her four children, Bennie Robert, Stephanie Cobb (Jeffrey), Kimberly Dixon and Jessica Sykes and grandchildren, Rashard (Eureka), Renee Austin (Tyler), Renaldo Walker, Jeremiah Cabral, and Jackson Cabral. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
The funeral service for Vera Arline Sykes will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 7th, 2022 at the Citadel of Jacksonville, 1057 Arlington Road Jacksonville, Florida 32211. The visitation will be 5-7 P.M., Friday, May 6th, 2022 at the Funerals by T.S. Warden 4315 North Main St., Jacksonville, FL 32206. Interment in Callahan Community Cemetery.
