Dove Release

Dove Release Funeral Services

Our dove release has become one of our most popular services that we offer. The dove release usually takes place at the end of the funeral service or graveside service. While the doves are released usually a poem or some music is played. The doves are released from a decorated basket of your choosing and the process is handled by an experienced dove handler.

The dove is considered a symbol of peace, hope, and freedom. Many families say the dove release helps begin the grieving process. The experience can be rather cathartic and it helps to symbolize the “letting go” of a loved one. There are also some slight differences in meaning when it comes to how many doves are released and how they are released.
  • The release of two doves symbolizes the departing of the deceased’s spirit followed by the spirit of their guardian angel.
  • The release of three doves followed by the release of a single dove signifies the Holy Trinity of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit guiding the soul of the deceased to heaven.
  • Another popular option is to release one dove followed by the release of several doves (5-15). This option represents the soul of the deceased being carried by angels to heaven.
  •  A family-oriented option is to have the number of doves released based on the amount of immediate family members.
