Obituary for Burney Baker

Mr. Burney Baker was born on March 15, 1924 in Nashville, Georgia to the late Molden and Eliza Baker. Baker was no stranger to hard work and mastered many skilled professions, such as roofing, carpentry, landscaping, and automobile servicing. Baker enjoyed spending time with family and friends, but most of all he was a faithful member of Word Vine Christian Fellowship, Inc. Mr. Baker lived life for 91 wonderful years. No matter what happened in life, “He would say pray, and don’t worry”.

On December 10, 1979, Baker married the love of his life, Bessie M. Godfrey. Their love blossomed for 35 wonderful years and the love still remains.

Mr. Baker departed this life on Sunday, May 17, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Molden and Eliza Baker; a son, Gregory L. Godfrey; two brothers, Jimmy Baker and Alfred Baker; six sisters, Flossie M. Day, Flora L. Middleton, Ludell Donaldson, Moties Capers, Collin Fredrick and Mattie L. Bradley.

Mr. Baker will be missed by many, especially his wife, Bessie M. Godfrey-Baker; daughter, Gail J. Campbell; son, Lenox L. Godfrey; four sisters, Jarutha McConico of Nashville, GA, Nina (Willie) Johnson of Ponta Gorda, FL, Sarah (Willie) Battle of Flushing, NY, Mary J. (Carlton) Harris of Hollis, New York; aunt, Cora Mae Gaines of Valdosta, GA; five grandchildren, Charlie, Na’Toria, Shameika (Rodderick), Trya and Donnaneshia; great-grandchildren, Rodriquez, Jawaun, Jordin, Gregory, Alyriah and London; great great-grandchild, Rakayleh; special nieces and nephews, Leo, Beatrice, Christopher (Michelle), Saundra (Darron), Jimmy, Felix (Marcey), Herman (Sylvia); countless other nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends from all walks of life.

The funeral service for Burney Baker will be held 11AM, Saturday at the Word Vine Christian Fellowship Church 2633 Van Gundy Rd. The visitation will be 5-7PM, Friday at the mortuary.
