Mr. Johnny Bowman, Sr. affectionately known as “Hank” was born on August 27, 1931 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Alice Bowman and James Bowman. Johnny graduated from Matthew Gilbert High School, later enlisting in the United States Army on September 23, 1952 serving in the branch of Aus Arty. Johnny received an honorable discharge on September 1, 1960, and went on to work for the Naval Air Station in the rework facility as a Department Supervisor, retiring after 37 years of service at the Jacksonville Naval Air Station. Johnny was a member of Word of Life Community Church under the leadership of Pastor Roderick Hendricks.

Johnny departed this life on Sunday, November 8, 2015 and was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and James Bowman; sisters, Kate Bowman, Mary George, Birdie Holmes and Minnie Moss; brothers, Herbert Bowman, James Bowman, David Bowman, and Louis Bowman.

Johnny leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Dr. Shirley Bowman; daughter, Annquinette Givens; sons, Kenneth Bowman, Johnny Bowman, Jr. (Labrena); grandchildren, Ashley Tunsill, Johnny Bowman, III, Lanier Brown (Jeremaine), Jasmine Bowman, Jamaiah Bown, Jayla Bowman, Kenneth Bowman, Kendra Bowman; 2 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Julius Perry of Willingboro, NJ; sister-in-laws, Larrisa Bowman of Grand Rapids MI, and Julia Shuman of Jacksonville, FL; a devote friend and caregiver, Lizzie McIntosh; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many sorrowing friends.

Johnny “Hank” Bowman, Sr. was born August 27, 1931 and passed peacefully at home on November 8, 2015 after a lengthy illness. He leaves to mourn a loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Dr. Shirley Bowman; 3 children; several grandchildren; other relatives, and many sorrowing friends. Funeral services will be held in the Samuel C. Rogers, Jr. Memorial Chapel on November 16, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Viewing will be Sunday, November 15, 2015 at the Mortuary from 3-5 PM.
