Obituary for Susie Mae Dawson

Susie Mae  Dawson
Susie Mae Dawson was born on August 8, 1928 in Marshallville, Georgia. She moved to Jacksonville, Florida looking for a better life and a new start. With just an 8th grade education, Susie was determined to further her education by obtaining a General Educational Development Certification. Susie went on to get married and start a family. While working as a domestic housekeeper for an affluent family, she attended Jones College at night and received her Nursing Assistant Certification. After completing her certification Susie worked at Baptist Medical Center, and St. Luke’s (Mayo) Hospital for many years.

Susie was a member of Mount Ararat Missionary Baptist Church, Inc. located in Jacksonville, Florida. She was a member of Choir #1 and served in the Missions Ministry. She enjoyed traveling and shopping, she patronized the Jacksonville Transportation Authority and developed a community of city bus riders, as this was something she truly enjoyed doing.

Susie departed this life on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. She was preceded in death by her mother, Leona Williams Jackson; father, Ernest Jackson, Sr.; son, Jerome Dawson, Sr.; grandson, Jerome Dawson, Jr.; six siblings, Anita Robinson, Rev. Frank “Buddy” Hicks, Addie Mae Hayes, Harry Jackson, Lula Bell Marshall King, and Ernest “Pap” Jackson, Jr.

Susie leaves to cherish her memories; four children, James E. Dawson, Jr. (Lois), Joann Philpot, Joyce D. Knox, and Roxie A. Outing; fourteen grandchildren, Elizabeth Mack, Peter W. Knox, III (Cecilia), Marcus Dawson (Shean), Terry Dawson, Sabrina Dawson (Mark), Patrick D. Knox (Jacqueline), Penelope J. Knox, Edward M. Dawson, Andrea Barnes, Reshonda Outing, Reginald Philpot (Brittany), Reshika S. Outing, Regina Dawson, Tony Givins, Jr.; two sisters, Annie Beatrice Little (James), and Reverend Sally Jackson Harris (Willie); thirty-one loving great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives, and many devoted friends.

The funeral service for Susie Mae Dawson will be held 1:30PM, Saturday, at the Samuel C. Rogers Jr. Memorial Chapel 4315 N. Main Street .. The visitation will be 5 - 7PM, Friday, at the mortuary.
