Obituary for Eugene Thomas Hagan

Eugene Thomas Hagan “Genie Boy” was born to the late Esther Hall and Enoch Hagan on June 14, 1948. He received his education in the Duval County Schools, graduating from Eugene J. Butler Jr./Sr. High School, 900 Acorn Street. Eugene joined the United States Army and then entered the National Guard. He also attended college at Florida Community College at Jacksonville.

Eugene was known to some as “Genie Boy” and others as “Paper Boy” on the Westside of Jacksonville where his nephews, neighbors, and community all helped.

Eugene departed this life on Monday, December 5, 2016 at St. Vincent’s Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Floyd, Herbert, Theresa Davis, Carrie Mae Smith, and Hazel Hagan.

Eugene leaves to cherish his memory one son, Demetrius Bell, Sr.; grandson, Demetrius Bell, Jr.; brother, James Hagan (Lorraine); sisters, Lena Allen (Dave Solomon), Edna Nicks, Deloris Dunn, and Annette Marcus; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and the entire Westside community.
