Obituary for Charlie "CP" James

Charlie "CP"  James
Charlie James affectionately called “CP” was born on May 25, 1941 to the late Phillip James and Lilly Cook in Boligee, Alabama. His aunt, Elsie Sanders and uncle, Wiley Sanders raised him. He confessed Christ at an early age and became a member of Mt. Zora Baptist Church in Boligee, Alabama. CP received his education in the Greene County School System.

Like his father; CP joined the United States Army and proudly served. He was a rifle marksman, and later achieved the rank of an E7, Sgt. 1st Class (The Big Red One). He was honorably discharged after many years of service. Upon retiring from the military CP worked for Greyhound Bus Station as a driver for many years. He later became an independent trucking contractor “The Jolly Green Giant”. Through hard work and determination CP became a successful businessman which included property management and a pager service “The Beeper Man”. He was also on the advisory board of the local chapter of the NAACP.

Charlie departed this life on Monday, December 26, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lilly Cook Dowdelle and Phillip James; a son, Jason James; brother, Marion Hogan; and sister, Jacqueline Scarber.

Charlie leaves cherished memories to his wife, Deborah James;children, LaTreasie James (GA), Vanessa Bracy (Jarvis), Phillip James, and Avery James (all of Florida); brothers, Larry McLemore (FL), Hosea Cook (OH), Tommie Temple (WI), Glenn Arrington-James (AL); sisters, Carmen Sneed and Carlotta Smith (both of AL); special cousin, Mozzell James (OH); grandchildren, Aaron Bracy, Arielle Bracy, Tiombe James, and Juleon James; other relatives and friends.

The funeral service for Charlie James a.k.a. "CP" will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, January 3rd, 2017 at the Greater Friendly Missionary Baptist Church 1721 W. 19th St. The visitation will be 4-6:00 pm, Monday at the mortuary.
