Obituary for JOE LOUIS LEWIS

JOE LOUIS  LEWIS
Joe “Louis" Lewis was born on February 17, 1937 to the late David and Mary Lewis in Fitzgerald, Georgia. Joe later moved to Jacksonville, Florida and attended Stanton High School.

Joe was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church for eighteen years where he served on the Trustee Board. He joined the United States Army and served in the Korean War. Joe worked for Pantry Pride Grocery Stores and retired. He later worked occasionally for U-Haul Transportations Services.

Joe was a kindhearted, warm, and loving person who loved life and extended his hand out to help anyone in anyway that he could. Joe was one of eleven children, he had nine brothers and two sisters.

Joe departed this life on Monday, January 16, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers and two sisters.

Joe leaves to cherish his memory a loving and supported wife of 44 years, Gertrude Lewis; two daughters, Anita Lewis and Cynthia Lewis by a previous marriage; two brothers, Charlie Lewis (Deloris) and Johnny Lewis; brother-in-law, Moses Cuffie (Joyce); sister-in-law, Doretha McNair; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and sorrowing friends.

The funeral service for JOE "LOUIS" LEWIS will be held 12PM SATURDAY, at the Asbury United Methodist Church of West Jax, 1075 Almeda St. The visitation will be 5 - 7PM, Friday, at the mortuary.
