Obituary for Ravi Shankar "Swann" Warford

Ravi Shankar "Swann"  Warford
Ravi Shankar Warford was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 5, 1965 to Marvin Cabell and Rita Warford. He confessed Christ at an early age, while attending Shiloh Baptist Church, in Chicago with his grandmother the late Marcella Vance. Ravi attended the public schools in Chicago, graduating from Hales Franciscan High School. After graduating from high school, Ravi enlisted and served in the United States Marine Corps. After four years of service, he attended, Southern Illinois University of Carbonale (SIUC). After graduating with a degree in Broadcast Communications, he worked in television as a camera man, field reporter, and on occasion an air anchorman in Alabama for 12 years. Ravi also worked in radio for a while at 107.7 in Dothan, Alabama, and as a DJ known as “DJ Swaney Mac”.

Ravi later relocated to Jacksonville, Florida where he was able to extend his family with the Floyd’s and was later able to meet and marry Samantha Sims. He continued to work in television news, TBN, and as an adjunct professor at Florida Community College of Jacksonville. Ravi had a passion for helping, especially senior citizens which lead him to starting a career in the health and life insurance industry. He had a very successful career with different companies in which he won awards for salesman of year, among others.

What has always meant the most to Ravi is being a good father to his 6 children. He has worked hard to also be a great son, husband, father, brother, cousin and uncle. Ravi was a big jokester, avid sportsman, and he enjoyed watching ESPN, First Take, and Judge Mathis daily.

Ravi departed this life on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 and was preceded in death by his grandmother, Marcella Vance; and father, Marvin Cabell.

Ravi leaves to mourn his passing: a wife, Samantha Warford; daughters, Raven Warford (Jacksonville, FL), Paige Warford (Chicago IL), Deja Cook, (Detroit, MI), and Naysa Warford (Jacksonville, FL); sons, Ravi (Kristin) Lewis (Houston, TX) and Nicholas Warford (Chicago, IL); stepchildren, Carrington Johnson-Sims, Cameron Sims and Charis Sims (Jacksonville, FL); grandchildren, Jayden Lewis and Jordyn Lewis; mother, Rita Warford (Indianapolis, IN); sisters, NatuRa Warford, Abiola Ali (Madison, WI) and Maya Cabell (Chicago IL); brothers, Shawn Cabell (Atlanta, GA), Kareem (Rozunbra) Lozer (Nashville, TN), Marvin (Zakwa) Cabell (Clinton, MS), Marvino (Wilma) Cabell (Chicago, IL) and Miles Cabell (San Antonio, TX); best friend, Merrick Kelly; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral service for Ravi Shankar Warford aka "Swann" will be held 11:00 am Friday, April 7th, 2017 at the Samuel C. Rogers Jr. Memorial Chapel 4315 N. Main Street JACKSONVILLE, FL 32206. The visitation will be 5 - 7:00 pm , Thursday, April 6th, 2017 at the mortuary. Interment in Jacksonville National Cemetery.
