Obituary for Barbara Hill Walker-Silas
Barbara Hill Walker-Silas was born on December 26, 1931 to Reverend William M. Hill and Bessie L. Hill. She attended the local schools in Duval County, furthering her education at Florida A&M University where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Masters of Education at Florida Normal. Barbara taught at several local schools for 36 years, prior to retiring.
Barbara was a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church for over 60 years before her health failed. She was also a well-known pianist for several local churches. The words “Love, Sacrifice and Faith” describe how Barbara lived her life and showed care and concern for her family and friends, as well as members of the community.
Barbara departed this life on Thursday, March 30, 2017. She was preceded in death by her father and mother; husband, Henry Silas; brothers, William, Cassius, and Walter Hill; sisters, Louvenia Stafford and Joselyn Brown.
Barbara leaves to cherish her memories: children, Patrice Walker Robinson (Bruce Sr.), Diva Tyler (Pam), Lisa Walker, Jeff Walker III (Sherrie); brother, Rickey Hill of Orlando, Florida; grandchildren, Toria Frederick (David), Tavares Walker, Terrence Walker, Latrice Robinson, Bruce Robinson, Jr., Traylonda Walker, Monaye Robinson and LaShawndra Storr (Tyrone); a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and a special friend, Eddie Stewart.
Mrs. Barbara Walker passed away Thursday, March 30th, 2017. Mrs. Walker leaves to cherish her memories her children, Patrice Walker Robinson( Bruce), Diva Tyler aka Pamela Crichlow, Lisa Walker, and Jeff Walker, III (Sherrie); brother, Rickey Hill other relatives and friends. The funeral service will be held 10:00 AM, SATURDAY, April 8th, 2017 at the Abyssinia Missionary Baptist Church, 10325 Interstate Center Dr. The visitation will be held 5 - 7:00 PM, Friday, at the mortuary.
