Mrs. Nora Lee Askew Stafford was born on December 17, 1928, in Tifton, Georgia (a birthday she shared with her only daughter Mary Stafford-Griffin). She was the eleventh of twelve children born to Sam Askew and Mattie Kinchen Askew. Nora was raised in Valdosta, Georgia and at an early age, she gave her life to Christ and was baptized at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Stafford was a graduate of Dasher High School where she was a cheerleader and member of the track and field team. On August 16, 1948, she married Thomas James Stafford; to this union five children was born. Mrs. Stafford loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years, where she served as Secretary of District 22 and later re-assigned to District 6 under the leadership of Deacon Monroe Ford, and was also a member of the Decoration and Flora Committee under the direction of Mrs. Susie Gilbert. Mrs. Stafford was a long term employee of River Garden Hebrew Home, retiring after 22 years of service.

Mrs. Stafford’s children were her pride and joy and she was very instrumental in their education and their extra-curricular activities, participating in PTA organizations, band parents association and the athletic booster associations of Northwestern Jr. High School and William M. Raines Senior High School. Mrs. Stafford was a sweet, loving and caring woman who never met a stranger; she touched and impacted the lives of many through her kindness and generosity.

Mrs. Stafford was called home to be with her Heavenly Father, Lord, and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, June 25, 2017. She was preceded in death by a son, Clifford W. Stafford; husband and father of her children, Thomas J. Stafford; and 10 siblings.

Left to cherish her memory and legacy are her children: Thomas D. Stafford (Georgette), Robert Stafford, Mary Stafford-Griffin, and Randall L. Stafford; one sister, Pearline Simmons of Valdosta, GA; six grandchildren, one granddaughter, Audrey D. Griffin; five grandsons, Aaron C. Stafford, Jahmaar R. Stafford, Christopher J. Stafford, Leon L. Griffin Jr. (Alecia), and Michael D. Stafford; two great-grandchildren, Zayla N. Griffin and Xavier T. Stafford; daughter-in-law, Ms. Evelyn Stafford; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; special sons and daughters who include: Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Tolliver, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Byers, Ms. Bessie Moore, Mr. William Johnson, Mr. Marvin Flynn, and Ms. Mary Hardwick; special friends, Ms. Lois Miles, Ms. Elouise Barber, Ms. Shirley Sharp and the loving and caring staff and residents of Lanier Terrance among whom are: Shirley Leggett, Dedra Lewis, Mia Palacios , Ashley Squire, Tonya Bruson, Tosha Watson, Vicki Scott, Mary Anne Dunbar, Cynthia King and Princess Brooks.

The funeral service for Nora Lee Stafford will be held 12PM, Saturday, July 1st, 2017 at the Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church. The visitation will be 5 - 7PM , Friday, at the mortuary.
