Samuel Holmes, son of the late Chester Holmes, Sr. and Sarah J. Holmes was born on June 19, 1942 in Jacksonville, Florida. A lifetime resident of Jacksonville, Florida he attended the local Duval County Schools. Samuel worked and retired from American Maritime Services after many years of dedicated service.

Samuel was affectionately known to family members and friends as “Sam”, he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Samuel departed this life on Saturday, September 16, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Willie Holmes, Sr.

Samuel leaves to cherish loving memories: devoted sisters, Catherine Ross, Evelyn Fagan, Gwendolyn Stephens (Willie) and Leola Scurry; brothers, Chester Holmes Jr. and James Holmes, Sr. (Gladys); uncle, Ethan Norman (Nancy); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
