Obituary for Ruby Lucille Riley

Ruby Lucille Thompkins Riley was born on November 27, 1919 in Putnam County, Florida to the late Ben Thompkins and Idella E. Martin. She was educated in the Public Schools of Putnam County, graduating in 1938. On a train in 1943 she met a soldier in uniform by the name of Andrew C. Riley. They were joined together in holy matrimony on July 10, 1944 and settled in the LaVilla section of Jacksonville, Florida. In the year of 1956 the family moved to the northside of the city to Wilberforce Road where she resided until her death. Ruby was employed by Swisher International Inc, formerly known as King Edward Cigar Factory where she retired in 1985 after 34 years of service. She was a dedicated member of Second Missionary Baptist Church since 1941.

Ruby departed this life on Sunday, November 26, 2017. She had 18 siblings that preceded her in death. On March 25, 1962 after a lengthily illness her beloved husband A.C. passed away. This marital union was blessed with six children, Andria, Gwendolyn, Constance, Beverly, Michael, Kenneth.

Ruby is survived by six children, Andria R. Webb (Lewis), Gwendolyn R. Simmons (Claude), Constance M. Riley, Beverly A. Riley, Michael A. Riley, Kenneth B. Riley; a niece, Tiffany I. Thompkins whom she raised from the age of six years old; loving stepdaughter, Marion Riley Jones; loving daughter-in-law, Joyce G. Riley; seven grandchildren, Claude S. Simmons (Kimberly), Lewis C. Webb II (Kimberly), Terrance R. Simmons (Davette), Andrew “Chris” Webb (Jaclyn), Tanitra M. Simmons, Michael A.C. Riley, Joia Riley Shafer (Joshua); sixteen great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Maeola Thompkins, Almetta Thompkins and Helen Baldwin; devoted nephew, Lonnie T. Brown (Alma); devoted niece, Mellonese White; loving cousin, James Craig Jenkins; and a host of caring nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Although her joyous and energetic presence will be missed. Her caring and giving spirit will carry on within everyone she touched.

The funeral service for Ruby Lucile Riley will be held 11 AM Saturday, December 2nd, 2017 at the Second Missionary Baptist Church 954 Kings Road. She is survived by her children Andria Webb (Lewis), Gwendolyn Simmons (Claude), Constance, Beverly, Michael and Kenneth Riley. Interment in Jacksonville National Cemetery.
