Dorothy“ Dot” Thomas was born, on May 8, 1932 in Jacksonville, Florida, in the throes of “The Great Depression”, the ninth and final child of the late Sam and Ivola Goines Thomas. A near lifelong resident of East Jacksonville, Dorothy confessed her faith as a Christian at an early age and held membership at various churches over her lifetime and most recently as a faithful member of Redeeming Life Church where she was affectionately known by congregants as Momma Dorothy.

Dorothy departed this life on Monday, July 30, 2018. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Cleo Thomas, Ola Mae Thomas, Essie Mae Thomas, Raymond Thomas, Beulah Nolan, Lois Parker, and James D. Thomas.

Dorothy leaves to cherish the memory of her abundant life: her loving children, Gary Thomas (Rosalind), Harrell Thomas (Sharon), Renita Murray (Howard) and Helen Bell (John); grandchildren, Khia, Richard, Kayla, Shaina and Sharrell; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Goss; four nieces, three nephews, a host of grand and great grand nieces and nephews, cousins, a very special lifelong friend, Mrs. Mattie Mae Peoples, among others.
