Obituary for Annabelle Bennett

Annabelle Bennett
Annabelle Lewis Bennett, was born on November 26, 1936 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late, Pearl L. Davis (Nee) Lewis and was educated in the Philadelphia School System. Annabelle (fondly known as Anne) accepted Christ as her Savior, early in her life and was baptized at Whalen Temple Baptist Church in the city of Philadelphia where she served as a Junior Missionary.

Anne was an outgoing person, and made friends everywhere she went, and was loved by all. She moved to Jacksonville, Florida in the early 1970’s. During that period, she met and married the late, George Bennett. For several years, Anne ran a concession stand at the Bay Meadows Golf Course and later was employed by Taylor Homes, as a food server until she became ill in 1998.

Annabelle never forgot her upbringing and the Proverbs, “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6), and began to search for a new church home. According to Annabelle, she visited many churches throughout the Jacksonville area and could not find what she was seeking. Finally, the Lord led her to Northside Church of Christ under the leadership of Charlie McClendon. She stated “I finally found what I’ve been looking for” and she always spoke very highly of him and the entire church family.

Annabelle fell ill some, 16 years ago and soon thereafter was unable to physically take care of herself, and was thereby admitted to a nursing home. However, her physical condition did not hinder her ability to attend regular Sunday Worship Services, and other church events. She always looked forward to the church picnic and the church anniversary program.

The Lord in His infinite wisdom, plucked a beautiful flower from His garden, and took her to be with him in Glory. She is survived by her siblings, James Davis of Camden, NJ, Dorothy E. Davis of Atco, NJ, Lillian Gail Gardner (William N.) of Sicklerville, NJ, and Tanya M. Davis of Atco, NJ; a special cousin, Cheryl Robinson of Philadelphia, PA; sister-in-law, Minnie Bennett Anderson, and a brother-in-law, Johnnie Bennett both of South Carolina; a special niece and hairdresser, Gail Green of Jacksonville, FL; other relatives include, nephews, James A. Davis (Elaine), Sean D. Ransom (Andina), Gregory A. Davis; and a host of other family members and friends.
