Mrs. Bertha M. Bolden
May the work I done speak for me is the life of prominent educator, entrepreneur, and civic leader, Mrs. Bertha M. Bolden. Mrs. Bolden was born, to the late Mr. Willie and Mrs. Mattie Stephen Johnson, of Eastman Georgia. Mrs. Bolden, was a graduate of Florida Memorial College, and held a Master’s Degree in Education. Along with her deceased husband Dr. John H. Bolden were founders of the Bolden’s Chorale Music Association. A ministry dedicated to sharing the love and power of God through vocal and instrumental music. They shared a deep love for developing the voices and instrumental skills of youth, as well. The Chorale had active chapters throughout Florida and parts of Georgia. They were pioneers in the Jacksonville community with the opening of the Bolden School of Music. Mrs. Bolden was a retired elementary school educator, with many years of dedicated service to students and various school districts.

Mrs. Bolden was a member of Greater Friendly Missionary Baptist Church for over fifty years, during which time she was a committed servant leader. She was a very generous supporter of Historical Black Colleges and the State University System, giving of her gifts and services knowing that only what you do for Christ will last. Her beautiful voice will always echo in the ears and hearts of so many lives she touched.

Mrs. Bolden transitioned from this life on Saturday, April 9, 2016. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dr. John H. Bolden; adored son, Dr. Richard Bolden; only beloved brother, Deacon Elzie L. Johnson.

Mrs. Bolden leaves to cherish loving memories her nieces, Chavon Johnson-Peoples, Valecia Johnson Evans (Charles); great nieces, Morgan Peoples and Marian Parsons; great nephews, Myles, Marquis Sr, Mikhai Parsons; cousins, Eileen Hall (Robert), of Palmetto, Florida, Arleatha Maddrick; a loving and devoted caregiver, Eva Linda Daniels; longtime family friend and attendant, Clyde Haynes and a host of sorrowing friends to celebrate a life well lived.

The funeral service for Bertha M. Bolden will be held 11:00 am SATURDAY, at the Greater Friendly Missionary Baptist Church, 1721 W. 19th St. Jacksonville, FL 32209.
