Obituary

Obituary for Betty Sanders

Betty Jones Sanders was born on February 2, 1925, in Valdosta, Georgia to the late Will and Rosie Jones and later raised by Emma and Lorenzo Corbett. She was married to James C. Sanders and they bore one child, Barbara Ann Sanders (Stokes).

Betty attended Dayspring Baptist Church where she served on the usher board for several years. Later she moved her membership to Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the usher board until she became ill.

Betty worked for King Edward Cigar Factory (now known as Swisher International) for 42 years. After her retirement, she began operating an in-home childcare business for newborns to 3 years old, out of her love and passion for children. Some of those same children, now adults, include Glenton Jones, Darrius Bolden and many more.

Betty departed this life on Tuesday, August 6, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband James C. Sanders; a very special friend, Robert Jenkins; and her siblings, Lula Mae, Christine, Mary, Martha, twin Rebecca “Becky” James, and Will Jones Jr.

Betty leaves to cherish her memories one child, Barbara Sanders Stokes (Raymond); two grandchildren, Shavon M. Carter and DeAngelo V. Evans; two great-grandchildren, Khloe Evans and Kingston Evans; niece, Rosa Mae Tyson; nephews, Harold Jones (Ruth) and Albert Jones (Sadie); goddaughters, De’Anna Nicholas and Nicole Boyd; godson, Kenyatta “Pokey” Sheffield; special neighbors, Deborah Sheffield, Al Burden Sr. and Carlton Burden; and a host of other family members and friends.
