Obituary for Clinton "Phat" Rogers

Clinton "Phat" Rogers
Clinton Rogers was born on December 27, 1954 in Jacksonville, Florida to Arleatha Powell (Rowe) and David Rogers.  Clinton attended school in Duval County, graduating from Robert E. Lee High School. He also attended college locally.  He worked hard in local factories and warehouses until he became permanently disabled from a back injury. Although he felt the pain of this everyday, he rarely complained and did all he could to make sure his mother was taken care of on a regular basis.

Clinton was a simple, sweet man and would do anything for his friends and family.  He loved to eat, he cooked really well and he also loved to laugh and flirt with the ladies. He enjoyed reading all type of books, listening to all kind of music, watching sports, playing cards, chess and backgammon.  He was well known around the neighborhood and many knew him by his nickname,“Phat” which we found written on almost everything he owned.  He never married, but he had one daughter, Candis Carter.

Clinton fought a courageous battle with lung cancer for 8 months and smiled, joked and flirted with the pretty ladies until the very end. He transitioned on June 8, 2014 with his sister by his side. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Willie James Rogers, his stepfather, Earnest Rowe, grandmother, Ida Mae Minion, and aunt, Jacqueline Kendrick.

He leaves to mourn his passing; his mother, Arleatha Rowe; older brother, Shannon Rogers; younger sister, Kimberly Rowe-Vanallen; daughter, Candis Carter; grandchildren, Nigel Carter, Derrick'a McDonald, Andre Bennett Jr. and Timya McNeal; nieces, Ashley Rogers, Amanda Rowe-Vanallen and Alicyn Rowe-Vanallen, and a host of other relatives and friends.
