Obituary for Cuthbert Jerome Johnson

Cuthbert Jerome  Johnson
Bro. Cuthbert J. Johnson was born on February 24, 1929 in Callahan, Florida to the late Joseph and Prudence Johnson. He was the second of three children born to this union. Cuthbert received his education in the public schools of Callahan (Nassau County), Florida. After graduation, he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and served until his "Honorable Discharge" in 1960.

Cuthbert accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age joining the Greater Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Callahan. After marriage and starting a family, he moved to Jacksonville and continued his faith becoming a member of Second Missionary Baptist Church. Cuthbert was a devoted member of Districts 32 and 18, the Mass Choir, and a diligent participant of the Sunday School Ministry.

Cuthbert retired from St. Regis Paper Mill in Jacksonville, Florida in 1983 after a long career as a foreman and supervisor of the woodyard.

"C. J.", as he was affectionately called, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Monday, February 15, 2016.

Cuthbert was preceded in death by his parents, both of his siblings, Joseph A. Johnson and Melvenia S. Kent; and a loving wife, Peggy J. Johnson.

Cuthbert leaves to cherish his memories: two sons, Eric J. Johnson and Terrence L. Johnson (Peggy); two grandchildren, Selwyn Carrol, Jr. and Kaelyn T. Johnson; one aunt, Ophelia Morgan Judson; one devoted cousin, Ivey J. Bloodsworth; one goddaughter, Jennifer C. Butler; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and sorrowing friends.

The funeral service for Cuthbert Johnson will be held 11AM, Wednesday, February 24th, 2016 at the Second Missionary Baptist Church 954 Kings Road. The visitation will be 5 - 7PM, Tuesday at the mortuary. Interment in Jacksonville National Cemetery. Please sign the family guest book @ www.tswarden.com. Arrangements in care of Tyrone S.
