Obituary for Deacon Avarn Hearn Sr.

Deacon Avarn Hearn Sr.
Deacon Avarn Hearn, Sr. was born on April 30, 1958 in Picayune, Mississippi to the late Aaron and Gladys Hearn. He was the youngest of seven siblings. Avarn graduated from Hattiesburg Public School and subsequently enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served for 21 years retiring as a Navy Chief. He was employed with Cain and Bultman for 18 years. He was united in matrimony to Louise Manaway in 1978 and to this union three sons and one daughter were born.

Avarn accepted Christ as his Savior early in his life. He was a faithful Deacon to his Pastor for 16 years and served at the Disciples of Christ Christian Fellowship Church for 13 years.

The memory of “Hearn” will forever be in our hearts as a warm laugh. He touched the lives of practically everyone he came in contact with whether on a serious note or just jokingly. He will be missed because he brought a lot of sunshine on a cloudy day using his unique personality that God blessed him with. Avarn was always willing and ready to serve as a true servant of God. He was “a preacher’s man” who had a lot of respect for the men of God, so much so that a lot of them called him their deacon as well. His favorite hymn was “Father I Stretch My Hands to Thee”

Avarn departed this life on Sunday, February 21, 2016 and was preceded in death by two brothers, Anthony and Alfonzo Hearn; two brothers-in-law, Samuel Manaway, Jr. and Bishop Michael Manaway.

God carries Avarn home leaving his loving wife of 37 years, Louise Hearn; three sons, Avarn Jr. (Valerie) of San Diego, CA, Jonathan (Mika) of Yokosuka, Japan, and Richard; a daughter, Tina in Jacksonville, FL; seven grandchildren, Asijah, Fabian, Avarn J., Lemmy, Alyssa, Aiden, and Tierra; his brothers, Aaron Jr. (Belinda) of Natchitoches, Louisiana, Alvin, and Alfred (Annice); one sister, Sarah Barnes of Hattiesburg, MS; brother-in-law, Dr. Rev. Robert Manaway (Jessie) of Seattle, WA; sisters-in-law, Glinda (Bernard), Velma (Willie), and Sarah Harris all of Hattiesburg, MS; the most loving mother-in-law, Josephine Manaway; and he has a slew of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
