Dwight Edward  Brisbane Sr.
On September 21, 1949 a miracle was born to Mr. Dwight Edward Bell and Mrs. Flora Brisbane. The epitome of strength, compassion, and love are attributes he adopted and modeled by his stepfather, Mr. Christopher Brisbane. Dr. Brisbane received his primary education in the Duval County Public School System and is a proud graduate of Stanton Vocational High School. Determined and ingenious following graduation he attended the Job Corp, soon after graduating from the Job Corp he was drafted into the Unites States Marine Corps and later enlisted in the United States Army where he served both branches faithfully. His service included a tour of duty in Vietnam. Dr. Brisbane returned to his hometown of Jacksonville, Florida where he worked and retired from the United States Postal Service.

On September 13, 1971 Dr. Brisbane married his high school sweetheart Sandra Jean King. God has blessed there union with twelve children, forty-two grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Always having a tender heart toward God he confessed Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior in 1976. He attended Greater Holy Temple COGIC under the leadership of Bishop C.D. Kinsey. He was ordained as an Elder and later installed as a Pastor. Dr. Brisbane consistently exemplified the heart of a shepherd. He pastored Olustee COGIC, Victory Temple COGIC, and Higher Ground COGIC. He developed a hunger and a thirst for God and it was demonstrated in his service to mankind. He loved to study the word of God. He had a vast library of bibles and Christian literature. His passion for Christ resulted in him earning a Bachelor’s Degree and he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree from St. Thomas Bible College. Dr. Brisbane served in various capacities in the COGIC, including an ordain Evangelist, Chief Adjutant to the late Bishop R. Dixon, and State President for YPWW.

Dr. Brisbane lived by the words of Christ “By this shall men know that ye are my disciples, if ye love one another” this love was demonstrated with every encounter. A pioneer he founded, By His Stripes Prayer Ministry where he partnered with Shands Hospital as a volunteer Chaplain. His hobby was serving and loving everyone, all of the time. Dr. Brisbane currently served on the Board of Directors for Kharacter Kids Christian Academy and One Church One Child of Florida Adoptions. A true disciple he was both an avid fisherman and a fisher of men. A provider, protector, and priest Dr. Brisbane was a devoted family man. He treated each of his children as if they were the only child. His favorite past time was family dinners and playing chess.

Dr. Brisbane fought a good fight; he finished his course on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 8:30 pm. He was preceded in death by his mother; father; stepfather; and a sister, Sandra Booker.

Dr. Brisbane is honored, cherished, and will be remembered by his loving and devoted wife, Sandra Brisbane; his inheritance, pride, and joy, Sandora (Eddie), Sharon, Stephanie (Corley), Tommy, Samantha (Decarlton), Lakeisha, Anissa, Patricia (Wallace), Sylvia, Dwight Jr. (Melissa), Tyighe, Latoya (Stephen), Terrance Sr. (Ebony), Dynasty (Travis), and Destiny; 42 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Brinkley, Nancy Scott, and Renee Brisbane; brothers, Christopher Brisbane and Gregory Brisbane; goddaughter, Tresonda Thompson; godsons, Averrell Thompson and Gregory Evans; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

The funeral service for Pastor Dwight Edward Brisbane, Sr will be held 11AM Saturday, January 7th, 2017 at the Cathedral of Faith COGIC 2591 W Beaver Street.
