Mr. Ernest "Red" Jackson was born in Valdosta, Ga. on August 1, 1927. As a teenager he moved to Jacksonville, Fl. living on his own and doing odd jobs around town. Years later he met and married Margie. Mr. Jackson was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Oakland for over 50 years, where he served on the Usher Board and Deacon Board. He retired from the Florida Times Union newspaper in 1993. Mr. Jackson went to live in a heavenly place on March 27, 2014 with his dear Lord and Savior. Survivors include children, Lawrence Small (Priscilla), Curtise Small (Tina), Myrtice Reid, Lavern Williams, Elaine Jackson-Parker, Ernest Lundy (Gwendolyn), Mellynn Merriweather and Faith Jackson; 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, devoted cousin, Ruthie Mae Lane, a host of other relatives, extended family and friends. The funeral service will be held 11 AM, THURSDAY at the First Baptist Church of Oakland, 1025 Jessie St. . The visitation will be held 5-7 PM Wednesday at the mortuary.
