Obituary for Fred Leonard "Freddy" Bentley Jr.

Fred Leonard "Freddy" Bentley Jr.
Fred Leonard Bentley Jr. entered his eternal home on December 18, 2017. Always outspoken and
opinionated, he was never short of words and graciously shared them with everyone he met. He will be
remembered as a jack of all trades, a masterful chef and a doting husband, father and grandfather who
unapologetically lived every day for his “girls.”
Born as the only child to the late Fred L. Bentley Sr. and Ernestine C. Bentley, Fred was very close to his
cousins and extended family. A proud graduate of William M. Raines High School, Fred earned a
bachelor’s degree from Florida A&M University where he met and fell in love with Ms. Belinda “Lynn”
Allen. The two married and settled in his hometown of Jacksonville, Florida where they happily raised
their daughters, Joye and Chaitra “Shockey.”
Fred was a fighter and defied the odds by surviving a complicated illness that he battled for nearly half
his life. His unyielding perseverance coupled with his devoted wife’s unwavering `faith in God saw him
through to the very end. Fred’s warrior spirit lives on in the hearts of his wife, daughters,
granddaughters, family and friends.

“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One
who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
Deuteronomy 31:6 New King James Version
